In the past, most carpets ended up in a landfill when it was removed from a home. Today, there are earth-friendly outlets for worn carpets. The installers and flooring specialists at Carpetime are knowledgeable about carpet recycling as well as new carpet products. Carpetime is a family-owned carpet store in Ohio that provides a wide selection of the latest carpet styles. We have a showroom in Massillon and Canton, and we offer a shop at home service, too.
Carpet America Recovery Effort
Consumers can't recycle carpeting as easily as bottles and cans. Therefore, the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE), an industry-government non-profit organization, was created. The group's goal is to 'advance market-based solutions that increase landfill diversion and recycling of post-consumer carpet.' While there is no standard way to recycle carpet at this time, progress is being made toward that objective. Mohawk is a member of CARE's Corporate Sustaining Partner Program, which recognizes outstanding financial contributions.
ReCover
Mohawk is the largest recycler in the flooring industry. In addition to using recycled content in many products, Mohawk provides the ReCover carpet recycling program. The flooring manufacturer recycles worn-out carpets through a North American network of carpet recyclers. The carpet does not need to be made by Mohawk; any brand is acceptable. The company operates a recycling facility that converts 3 billion plastic bottles per year into Everstrand carpet. A second facility turns carpet fiber into pellets for the automotive parts and furniture industries.
If you're interested in an eco-friendly floor covering, choose a Green Label Plus carpet. Fibers contain corn products and recycled plastic bottles, and therefore, emit fewer VOCs. Regardless of your preferred type of carpet, you can find what you are looking for at Carpetime. We have been serving Northeast Ohio, including the communities of Akron, North Canton, and Perry Heights, since 1980. We can put our many years of experience to work for you on your next carpet flooring upgrade.
